A 65-year-old LaGrange man was arrested on charges of drunk driving Thursday night after he allegedly ran a stop sign and plowed into a house in the 900 block of Kelley Drive.

Police arrived at the home shortly after 11 p.m. and found the man’s 2007 Dodge Ram truck stopped against a home, according to police reports.

The reporting officer noted tire tracks leading straight into the home that appeared to show the man failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Brown Street and Glenn Robertson Drive. The tracks “were deep and appeared to have been made a high rate of speed,” the officer wrote.

Police administered a sobriety test before arresting the man. At the Troup County Jail, he allegedly registered a 0.14 percent blood alcohol level; the legal limit in Georgia is 0.08 percent.

While at the jail, the man showed signs of high blood pressure and was taken to West Georgia Medical Center for treatment. The police report said he was cited and released from the hospital.

Patrol car damaged in rainstorm

A LaGrange police officer’s patrol car was pushed by heavy floodwater into a mailbox early Friday morning in the 300 block of Victoria Pointe Drive.

The officer was responding to a home in the area from which a hang-up 911 call had been made, according to police reports.

“After completing the call, he was backing out of the driveway when the rainwater pushed his vehicle into a tree located off the driveway,” the police report said. It was later noted that the vehicle struck a mailbox, not a tree.

The patrol car was moderately damaged, with a long dent and scrape across the side. The vehicle’s side mirror was nearly removed, as well.

The vehicle was photographed and the shift supervisor made a report.

Guest finds unwanted man in car

Guests of the Lafayette Garden Inn at 1513 Lafayette Parkway found an unwanted Christmas surprise in the back seat of their car Friday morning.

An inn guest called 911 after he went to his Ford Expedition in the parking lot and found a man sleeping in the back seat, according to police reports.

Police arrived and woke the man up. Officers said in their report the man smelled of alcohol, was slurring his words and unsteady on his feet. They found an open case of beer inside the vehicle, of which 15 cans had been consumed.

The man, 22, was arrested on charges of public drunkenness and entering an automobile. He was taken to the Troup County Jail and booked.

Theft, burglary

• A man reported his white 2000 Ford Focus was stolen Thursday from an apartment complex at 119 Old Airport Road. The vehicle was later found wrecked on Roanoke Road.

• Someone broke into the leasing office of an apartment complex at 150 Turner Street on Friday and placed thumbtacks in an employee’s chair and covered them with a sweater “in an attempt to cause pain,” according to a police report. It is unclear if anything was stolen from the office.
