LaGrange police were called out to a home Tuesday afternoon in the 600 block of Arthur Street to help code enforcement officers with a possible case of animal cruelty. Officers said they found a white terrier on the front porch whose fur was so matted, it was defecating on itself. The owners of the dog refused to hand the animal over to code enforcement or police, officers reported. Instead, the couple allegedly ran inside the residence. Finally, they handed over the dog, which was taken immediately taken to a local veterinarian. The veterinarian had to sedate the dog to shave off all the mats, according to an officer’s report. The vet also told officers the dog was infested with fleas and because of the size of the mats in the hair, the dog’s tail might be dead. Officers cited the couple with one count of cruelty to animals, and two counts of no proof of rabies inoculation – all misdemeanors. The report said the couple also had a second dog, a chihuahua, which was not taken by code enforcement officers. The couple has been cited three times for animal cruelty and for no proof of rabies shots in the past, according to LaGrange Police Department officers. Woman reports stolen car A woman told LPD officers that someone stole her car from her home in the 100 block of Sir Lancelot Avenue between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday. She described her car as a 2011 Silver Nissan Altima valued at $18,000.
