UNION — A new local establishment looks to offer something “safe, fun and entertaining” for Union County.

Union native George Jeter has opened Roo Stars, located at 2341 Cross Keys Highway, Union (in the building which was formerly Fairwood Lanes bowling alley).

Jeter is a disabled veteran who earned his associate’s degree from USC Union and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business from USC Upstate. The former marine said he has always been an entrepreneur at heart, and in November, one of his dreams came to fruition when he opened the 17,000-square-foot venue Roo Stars.

Jeter said he hopes the club will help provide for his family — his wife of 18 years, Vontressa, as well as his children — Crystal, 17, Andre, 16, and Andrea, 12.

“This is a big place, and we want it to be diversified with country, rock, hip hop — a little bit of everything,” Jeter said. “If we could get this place to capacity, it would help a lot of people in Union.”

Jeter said he would love to see the venue take off, allowing him to hire staff and generate some extra jobs in Union.

Jeter also said the focus of Roo Stars is to provide a safe, fun and entertaining experience for each patron who walks through the door. Roo Stars currently has extensive in-house sound equipment and a beer and wine permit. Jeter said he is looking to be open Monday-Saturday and have a full kitchen open within a couple months, creating more of a restaurant style atmosphere.

Jeter said Roo Stars is also available to be rented for parties, receptions, dances and other private functions. Last week, Roo Stars hosted a formal winter masquerade for ages 25 and up. Jeter also said the venue would be a perfect location for homecoming parties or after-prom events.

Jeter said he wants Roo Stars to be part of the community, and he hopes to become involved with a local charity. He said charities that assist veterans are the closest to his heart, as he is a veteran.
