Competitions are on tap this weekend beginning Friday night at the Downtown LaGrange Battle of the Bands event, continuing through Saturday and Sunday at the Powerboat races at Pyne Road Park.

Both events are free to the community. The Battle of the Bands is the annual downtown block party and will feature local musicians old and new. The show mobile stage will be set up in front of the Mansour’s building on Lafayette Square. Doublewide Revival is the opening act , taking the stage at six. The competition phase starts at 7 p.m.. Four bands will compete to win the Battle of the Bands. The competing acts include Jay Elle, Hope for Roses, Gullah, and Trashionality.

A panel of judges will rate the bands on originality, musicianship and stage presence. The winner of the competition will receive a $250 cash prize. Following the competition more music will be provided by Beggars Farm and Into the Further. The event will end at 11:30.

Many of the downtown restaurants will feature carryout specials so event goers can enjoy dining at the square while they listen to live music. The Battle of the Bands is sponsored by the Downtown LaGrange Development Authority, Downtown Partners, DanRic Homes, Mallory Agency and West Georgia Technical College.
