LaGrange police officers checking for valid licenses at the intersection of Barnard Avenue and Hill Street found more than they bargained for Saturday morning.
According to LaGrange police, officers became suspicious as a silver Nissan rolled up to the road check, and the driver cracked the window but didn’t roll it all the way down. As one of the officers went to grab the driver’s license, he said smelled a strong odor of marijuana.
Officers then asked the driver, 19-year-old Daryll McCamey, and his passenger, Ted Greene, to step out of the car while they searched it and both men. Officers allegedly found a bag of suspected marijuana and cocaine on McCamey, plus large amounts of cash on Greene.
Inside the car, officers allegedly found a black digital scale, often used for weighing before distributing narcotics.
McCamey was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a drug free zone, possession of cocaine within 1000 feet of a drug free zone, and tag requirement.
Greene was not arrested.
