Wind chills in the 20s and upper teens are expected tonight in LaGrange.

A strong Arctic cold will hit the state today, prompting a wind advisory from 4 p.m. until 1 a.m. Wednesday. Winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are forecast, making it feel much colder.

Forecasters said winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles, and light outdoor objects such as patio furniture and trash cans may be blown around.

Meanwhile, the wintry blast should push the mercury into the upper 20s tonight and Wednesday in LaGrange, threaterning outdoor plants. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a freeze warning for Troup County as well as north and portions of central Georgia from 1 to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The good news is that the low temperatures won’t last very long. After a high near 50 Wednesday, the mercury is expected to climb into the low to mid-60s Thursday through Sunday, with lows ranging from 37 Thursday to 54 Sunday.

Normal extremes this time of year are 66 and 41.
