Troup County Commission on Tuesday will vote on whether to allow Parks and Recreation to fill a recently vacated maintenance position, as per the county’s hiring freeze.

Parks and Recreation Manager Don Howell told commissioners during a brief work session Friday morning that he needed to fill a now-open position in the Hogansville parks maintenance department. Howell said a work leader in LaGrange recently had left, so he promoted an experienced maintenance employee to fill that position, and the Hogansville maintenance worker wanted to come fill the position left by the promoted employee in LaGrange.

“This is the first time we’ve had somebody leave in quite some time, ” Howell said.

Other items on Tuesday’s agenda are public hearings for:

• Rezoning 2747 Hamilton Road from single-family to commercial. A business already operates at the location, but the land had been grandfathered in and not properly zoned general commercial, county officials said.

• A request from Jeffrey Wreyford to rezone about 17 acres at 5949 West Point Road from single-family medium density to agricultural to grow hay on the property.

• A special use request from Neil Leichty for a bed and breakfast and rural tourism special events facility at 1899 and 1901 Young’s Mill Road.
