The Salvation Army hosted the first Red Kettle Kickoff Luncheon at Del’avant Thursday.
“This is the first time we have done one. We usually have one at the kettle sights,” Chris Powell said.
“We’ve asked people from the community to come in and give our kettles a big boost this year.”
Each table was given a kettle in which people each table were encouraged to contribute donations in an ongoing competition to see which table could raise the most.
“We have set a goal of $1,500 per table. The winner will win a glass porcelain bell that is engraved. They will be able to show that off in their office whoever wins the competition today.”
Christmas is traditionally a busy time for the Salvation Army, as its kettles are spread across the community in an effort to raise funds for the less fortunate. Powell believes that this event is a great way to kick off the Red Kettle Campaign.
“You’ll see our kettles in front of Walmart, Kroger and all of our other locations starting next Friday,” Powell said.
“We ask people to come out and give, every penny counts. It allows us to put that money back in our community and help people that are in need.”
