LaGrange will be one of seven cities to host the International Children’s Art Exhibition, beginning locally Thursday.
The exhibit features artwork from children around the world. The ICAE be at LaGrange Mall from Thursday through Feb. 16 as part of a seven-city, eight-month tour. Other stops include Cincinnati, Ohio; San Jose, Calif.; Little Rock, Ark.; and Los Angeles.
Since its inception, the intent of the ICAE has been to explore the vivid imagination of children. The ICAE gives children, ages 3 to 15, an opportunity to express their creativity through paintings, drawings and collages. Winning entries from throughout the United States, combined with winning entries from around the world, will be featured in the exhibition.
On Saturday, children 12 and under are invited to visit the exhibit and enjoy an opportunity to create their own special Valentine’s Day card or artwork. Sponsored by Staples, the creative space will be available from 1:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. inside LaGrange Mall.
“Art is an important element in the process of a child’s development and education,” said Donna Powell, senior property manager at LaGrange Mall. “The mall is proud to host this outstanding exhibit. We encourage parents to bring their children and share the experience of creativity and imagination.”
The exhibit is an official event of the third annual For Love of the Arts festival, a 10-day long celebration of musical, visual and cultural arts offerings in LaGrange.
“I am a frustrated artist who loves working with paper, pens and markers,” said Dave Marler of marlermedia. “When I learned Pentel was looking for a February 2014 host, I thought the ICAE would be a perfect child-oriented addition to For Love of the Arts.”
Founded in 1970 in Osaka, Japan, the ICAE is sponsored by Pentel. Local support for the exhibition is provided by LaGrange Mall, Staples and marlermedia.
