Forms are now available for citizens wanting to speak at Hogansville’s monthly town hall meetings, the first to be held at 6 p.m. on Feb. 20 at the City Hall.

City Manager James Woods announced during Monday night’s council meeting that the forms entailing a list of rules and regulations for the town hall meetings, were mailed with utility bills last Friday and can be picked up at the City Hall.

Town hall meetings were established by the city to improve communication between the citizens of Hogansville and the city, allowing all citizens the opportunity to direct questions, comments or concerns to the mayor and council as well as the city administration.

Citizens who want to speak at the meeting must fill out the form to be placed on the town hall’s agenda. Forms must be turned in by Feb. 18 for those wanting to speak at the February meeting.

Each speaker will be limited to no more than five minutes and all questions, comments or concerns will be directed to the chair of the meeting, in most cases the mayor, and not to other attendees. In no case will comments or exchanges between attendees be permitted. Demeaning comments or personal attacks will not be permitted and both questions to and answers from the city must be respectful and courteous. Each speaker is limited to one subject per town hall meeting.

The town hall meetings are expected to be held the third Thursday of each month, but the schedule will be adjusted as needed.

In other news, Hogansville Assistant Police Chief John Pearson reported to the Council that during the winter snow storm in the area last week, there were no reported accidents reported in Hogansville, largely due to city workers tending to the icy streets and citizens following instructions to stay off the roadways.

Woods said though the city did well during the storm, he has been looking into investing in more equipment to improve preparations, should the city encounter a more severe storm in the future.
