Roderquiz Deshon Gates, 26, of LaGrange was arrested Monday afternoon in the parking lot of Dollar General in the 200 block of Colquitt Street on drug charges.
Police made contact with Gates and smelled a strong odor of suspected marijuana coming from the car, according to a police report.
Two passengers were with Gates and police said all three consented to a search. Nothing was found on the men, but all three had large amounts of cash on them, according to reports. Gates was carrying $1,199.
In a vehicle search, police found a large container filled with alleged marijuana weighing 55 grams. They also found a black digital scale, a container with more alleged marijuana and a bag of rubber bands consistent with packing.
The vehicle was found to be a rental taken out in the name of Gates’ cousin.
According to the report, Gates claimed ownership of all materials found within the car.
It was found he also was driving on a revoked license.
Police noted that the incident occurred within 1,000 feet of the CAFI Head Start school located in the 100 block of McGregor Street.
Gates is facing charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a drug free zone and driving unlicensed.
