Downtown LaGrange Development Authority hosts the Hydrangea Festival this weekend and Red, White and Blue picnic, concert and movie event on June 27.
The Hydrangea Festival will kick off 5 p.m. Saturday and end at 9 p.m. Those who come out to downtown LaGrange during the festival will be able to listen to string quartets and trios. Patrons may visit participating shops and restaurants, where they can register to participate in wine and food tasting, and enjoy viewing works of art created by local artists.
The Red, White and Blue event on Lafayette Square is free and set to begin at 7 p.m. June 27 with a Patriotic Pops concert. Attendees may bring a picnic dinner, table, chairs, lawn chairs and blankets. Adirondack chairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The LaGrange Community Orchestra will present a patriotic musical program to start the evening festivities. At the same time is the Picnic with Pizazz contest, with prizes awarded for the best-decorated picnic tables. The winners of the table contest will be announced following the concert, about 8 p.m. Prizes will be given for first, second and third place.
At 8:15 p.m. is Food Eating Frenzy, featuring the annual hot dog-, cupcake- and ice cream-eating contests on the east side of Lafayette Square. The hot dog-eating contest is sponsored by Charlie Joseph’s and the winner will receive a trophy, a Charlie Joseph’s T-shirt, bumper sticker and a gift certificate. Contest is open to the first 10 participants.
Cupcake- and ice cream-eating contests are sponsored by Cakes by Debbie. The winners will receive trophies and gift certificates.
At dusk, about 9:15 p.m., the movie “Apollo 13” will be shown on the square to wrap up the evening’s events.
