It was a busy weekend for LaGrange police officers as they confiscated drugs and made several arrests.
On Saturday, officers spotted a silver Pontiac 6000 LE with a driver who they said is a known drug dealer at the corner of Carver and Revis streets. When an officer pulled behind him, the car allegedly started speeding away and driving erratically.
Police said that’s when the suspect, 25-year-old Jessie Heard Jr., bailed out of the passenger side door and took off on foot. Officers chased Heard, who got away.
According to LPD officers, when they returned to the abandoned car, they found 34 individual baggies of suspected crack cocaine and a LG smartphone.
After speaking with Heard’s mother, officers located him at a barber shop at the intersection of Miller Street and Murphy Avenue. Heard said the car must have been stolen while he was inside the shop. After receiving conflicting statements about Heard’s whereabouts, officers placed him under arrest.
Heard was in the Troup County Jail this morning charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a drug-free zone and possession of tools during the commission of a crime.
LaGrange police officers also arrested 37-year-old Rocky Mondale Williams this weekend after a brief traffic stop.
According to the report, when officers search the vehicle they found an undisclosed amount of marijuana and a handgun.
Williams was taken to the Troup County Jail where he is charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a housing authority and driving while license was suspended.
