Edward I. Goodwin III, 86, passed away August 26th at Country Gardens Assisted Living, Union City, GA.
He was a native of Syracuse, NY, and a graduate of Solvay High School. He served in the Navy during WWII and after the war he attended and graduated from Syracuse University. Ed started his career with General Electric in Syracuse, which was followed by multiple job promotions and relocations with various companies, landing in LaGrange, GA in 1975. Using his experience and entrepreneurial spirit he started Advanced Fabrics, Inc. In 1982 he sold his successful business, retired, and grew a beard. In retirement, he served for several years as a Court Mediator. He was also an instrumental member of his church, New Community Church, in LaGrange, where he and his wife Ann were members for over 15 years, and grew with them through the transition from a small congregation who met in a local theater to the thriving church community it is today. In his later years he became involved with The Village Church of Hapeville.
Ed is survived by his wife, Ann Parrish; daughter, Laura (Mike) Murphy of Hapeville, Ga.; sons, Douglas (Denise) of Ringgold, GA; David, Gregory (Lisa) of Syracuse, NY, and stepsons, Ricky and Ronnie Moore of NC, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ed is predeceased by his son Robert G. (Debra) Goodwin and his brother Robert S. Goodwin.
