Mrs. Mattie Rivers Fletcher of 16868 Whitesville Road in the Whitesville Community passed away Friday at Saint Francis Hospital in Columbus.


Mrs. Fletcher, the daughter of Annie Mae Rivers, was born October 25, 1931, in Harris County. She was a homemaker and retired in 1971 from Callaway Gardens. She was a lifelong and dedicated member of Roes Chapel United Methodist Church where she served faithfully on the Usher Board and other activities throughout the church.


Survivors include four children: Willie R. Fletcher (Gail), Georgia L. Fletcher, Juliette Fletcher (Aaron), all of Whitesville; Nathan Fletcher (Christine), Columbus, Ga.; ten grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Snow, LaGrange; sister-in-law, Juanita Williams, Whitesville; two brothers-in-law, James Fletcher and Charlie Knight, Atlanta; daughter-in-law, Martha Fletcher, Atlanta; goddaughters: Monica Cain and Cilverstine Bass; adopted son, Joseph Williams; dear friend, Lona Crawl; and loving caregiver, Alice Hall.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie H. Fletcher; her son, Herman “Charlie” Fletcher; and brother, Lonnie Rivers.


The Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday, September 12, 2013, at the Roes Chapel United Methodist Church. Rev. Julian Warner will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
