Heading into Saturday’s game, the Auburn Tigers figured they’d need to score a lot of points to have a chance to upset the Texas A&M Aggies.

With a big assist from Troup graduate Quan Bray, the Tigers did just that.

Bray caught a touchdown pass to help Auburn beat Texas A&M 45-41.

The win kept the Tigers (6-1 overall) in the hunt for the SEC West title with a 3-1 conference record.

The Tigers were trailing 14-10 in the second quarter when quarterback Nick Marshall rolled out and spotted Bray in the end zone.

Marshall delivered the pass, and Bray hauled it in for the touchdown.

The teams continued to go back-and-forth, with Auburn scoring with 1:19 remaining to take the lead for good.

Bray, who played his first three seasons at Callaway before spending his senior year at Troup, finished with three catches for 28 yards, and he also returned a kickoff for 40 yards.

Bray, a junior, is third on the team with 15 catches, and his three touchdowns are the most among Auburn’s receivers.

LSU: Former Troup Tiger J.C. Copeland missed Saturday’s game against Ole Miss with an injury.

Copeland, a senior fullback, is a key cog in LSU’s offense, and without him LSU lost to Ole Miss 27-24.

Copeland has 12 carries for 27 yards this season with three touchdowns, and he has been a primary blocker for LSU’s running backs.

KENTUCKY: The Wildcats were off last Saturday, and they’ll return to action this weekend for a game against Mississippi State as they look for their first SEC win.

A pair of former LaGrange Grangers play a key role for the Wildcats.

Senior Joe Mansour is the team’s place kicker, and he has had a superb season.

Mansour is 6-for-6 on field goals, and he also has a 25-yard touchdown run on a fake field-goal attempt.

On defense, senior defensive lineman Tristian Johnson has 19 tackles with one sack and a forced fumble.

GEORGIA: The Bulldogs’ hopes of winning the SEC East likely ended with Saturday’s 31-27 loss to Vanderbilt.

Chris Burnette, a senior from Troup High, was in his customary position as a starting offensive lineman for the Bulldogs.

Georgia’s usually potent offense was held to 221 yards by Vanderbilt.

DUKE: Defensive lineman Jamal Bruce and the Blue Devils blasted Virginia 35-22 to notch their third straight win.

Bruce, a junior defensive lineman from Callaway High, had one tackle, and he helped Duke shut Virginia out in the second half.

MURRAY STATE: Qua Huzzie, a senior linebacker from LaGrange High, had a team-high six tackles as the Racers overwhelmed Austin Peay 31-3.

Huzzie had one tackle for loss, and he also had a quarterback hurry.

Josh Manning, also a senior from LaGrange, had five tackles from his defensive-back position.

PIKEVILLE: Marquis Terrell, a running back from Callaway High, was a busy man in last week’s 35-24 victory over Bethel.

Terrell had 13 carries for 74 yards, and his longest run was 29 yards.

On defense, former Cavaliers Dontevius Daniel and Desmond Davis had four tackles and three tackles, respectively.
