The local basketball scene will be thriving this weekend.

For the first time, the teams from Callaway, LaGrange and Troup will all be in action at the same time.

All three schools will have games tonight, and the teams from LaGrange and Callaway will play on Saturday.

The Callaway teams will make their season debuts tonight when they visit Greenville, and they’ll play their first home games on Saturday against Bowdon.

Both Callaway teams enter a new season with lofty expectations.

The Lady Cavaliers finished second in Region 4-AAA last season, and most of the key players from that team are returning.

The Callaway boys’ team that won a region title last season also has most of its players back.

The Callaway teams have had to wait to get the season started because of the success of the football team.

Callaway was supposed to open up two weeks ago, but the start of the season was pushed back while the football team participated in the state playoffs.

Callaway was eliminated from the playoffs with last week’s loss to Buford in the semifinals.

Both head coaches are full-time coaches on the football team, and many of the players on the boys’ team also play football.

“They’ve been excited. They want to play,” Callaway girls’ coach Deyano Martin said. “But we’ve done so good with football, everybody’s had to wait. That’s a good thing.”

LaGrange’s teams have played three games.

The Grangers are 2-1, while the Lady Grangers are 1-2 after getting their first win on Saturday against Heard County.

LaGrange will host East Coweta today in a rematch of the season opener.

The Grangers won that game, while the Lady Grangers fell short.

On Saturday, LaGrange’s teams will be on the road against Newnan.

The Troup teams have also played three times this season.

The Tigers have won back-to-back games to improve to 2-1, while the Lady Tigers are 1-2.

Tonight, Troup will play Bowdon for the second time in a week.

On Saturday, the Tigers edged Bowdon 53-52 for their first win, while the Lady Tigers lost 60-46.

Troup’s teams will not play on Saturday.
