The LaGrange College men’s basketball team will put its perfect conference record on the line today.
The Panthers play a pair of USA South games this weekend in Virginia, beginning with today’s game against Averett and concluding with Sunday’s game against Ferrum.
The Panthers (8-5 overall), who have won four straight games, are 2-0 in the USA South after getting a pair of wins last weekend in North Carolina.
The Panthers beat Methodist 81-74, and they followed that up with an 86-76 win over Greensboro.
Dustin Baxter led the Panthers in scoring in both games, and he had a career-high 23 points against Greensboro.
After a hard-earned win over Methodist, the Panthers had another tough game the following day, and head coach Kendal Wallace felt the bench players had a key role in the win.
“(The win) was a complete team effort,” Wallace said. “Our starters were fatigued and we got big minutes from our bench. We rebounded well and weathered several Greensboro runs to get the win. I’m extremely proud of my guys.”
Today, the Panthers will face an Averett team that is 5-8 overall, but 2-1 in the conference.
On Sunday, the Panthers will take on Ferrum (2-8 overall), which is 0-3 in the conference.
LaGrange College’s women’s team, meanwhile, has a chance to even its conference record with a pair of wins this weekend.
The Panthers (7-6 overall), after losing their first three conference games, picked up their first USA South win by beating Mary Baldwin 69-38 last weekend.
This weekend, the Panthers will play two teams on the opposite end of the spectrum in the conference.
Today, the Panthers will play Averett (1-8), which is 0-3 in the conference.
Ferrum (9-0), meanwhile, is riding high with a 3-0 conference record.
