The LaGrange Lady Grangers were on the move.

After falling behind by 13 points late in the third period, the Lady Grangers fought back to within two early in the fourth quarter.

The momentum ended right there, though.

Sandy Creek dominated the rest of the game to claim a 61-43 victory in a Region 5-AAAA game.

“It’s the same thing every game. We’ve got to be able to play four complete quarters,” LaGrange coach Jan Jones said. “We’re not doing that right now. We played a good first and second quarter. And even in the third quarter, we did some good things. And then in the fourth quarter, I just think we crack under the pressure a little bit. We’re not executing.”

The Lady Grangers were down 30-23 at the half, but with a little more than two minutes remaining in the third period, they were behind 39-26.

LaGrange closed the quarter on a 7-0 run to get within six.

Erica Daniel scored the final four points of the third period to make it a 39-33 game.

When Taydra Holt scored after pulling down an offensive rebound with 6:40 left in the game, Sandy Creek’s lead was down to 39-37.

Things quickly went south, though, with Sandy Creek outscoring LaGrange 22-6 the rest of the way to win going away.

“We cut it back to two. But by looking at our body language, you couldn’t tell it,” Jones said. “We have to get excited and play with confidence, and that comes with winning. When you’re not winning, it’s hard. You just have to keep encouraging them.”

Cheteyah Tucker led LaGrange with 11 points, and she made 7-of-8 free-throw attempts.

Andrea Heflin and Antoinesha Dozier added eight points apiece.

LaGrange will try to get back on the winning track when it visits Troup on Tuesday.
