The Troup Lady Tigers are still searching for a break-through region win.

Today would be a fine time to make that happen, with the rival LaGrange Lady Grangers coming calling.

Troup brings an 0-9 Region 5-AAAA record into today’s game, which begins a busy week.

The Lady Tigers will play five games in five days, including a pair of makeup games from last week.

Troup lost to Fayette County 77-27 on Saturday in its first game in a week.

Troup head coach Carla Thornton said her young team has just tried to hang in there this season.

“We’ve gotten better. We pretty much have a JV team,” Thornton said. “We have three freshmen, a sophomore and one junior. Let’s look at the big picture, what we’re going to be. It’s not looking great right now, but we’re learning how to do all these things now. It’ll turn around.”

The Lady Tigers will get plenty of time on the court this week as they look to find some momentum heading into next week’s region tournament.

After today’s game against LaGrange, Troup will play Carrollton, Columbus, Shaw and Sandy Creek.

“There’s the possibility of an upset with these girls,” Thornton said. “We just have to put together four quarters.”

LaGrange has fared slightly better in the region with a 2-9 record, and coach Jan Jones believes her team could potentially do some damage in the region tournament.

“We can be that team that everybody falls asleep on in the region tournament that shows up and plays hard,” Jones said. “Hopefully that’ll be the case for us.”

Columbus, which has lost just one game all season, is on the way to the top seed in the region tournament with an 11-0 region record.

Fayette County (8-2), Carrollton (7-3) and Sandy Creek (6-4) are fighting it out for second place, and Alexander (5-6) is in fifth place.

Shaw (2-9) and LaGrange (2-9) are tied for sixth place, and Troup (0-9) is in eighth place.
