The LaGrange College softball team has a three-game winning streak after winning a pair of close games against visiting Elmira on Thursday.
The Panthers (3-1) won the first game 3-1 before finishing off the sweep with a 5-4 victory.
The Panthers took a 3-0 second-inning lead in the opener, and while they didn’t score again, they didn’t need to thanks to a strong outing from pitcher Kara Patterson.
In the second game, the Panthers twice had to rally from behind.
Elmira took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning, but LaGrange College took the lead with three runs in the fifth inning.
After Elmira reclaimed the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth, LaGrange College answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 5-4.
Courtney Beshel had a two-run single in the fifth inning for the Panthers, and Adrienne Little had an RBI hit in the sixth inning.
Olivia Wolfe started and pitched five innings, and she gave up two runs on five hits.
Amanda Stukel pitched the final two innings and allowed two runs, one earned, to get the win.
In the first game, Patterson went the full seven innings, and she allowed just four hits and one unearned run.
The Panthers scored three runs in the second inning despite getting just one hit, a single by Wolfe.
Elmira committed three errors, and Amanda Morier had a sacrifice fly to drive in a run.
The Panthers will host Judson (Ala.) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
