It was a stress-free day for the LaGrange High tennis teams, who both thumped Sandy Creek on Tuesday at the McCluskey Tennis Center.

The LaGrange teams participated in the Jekyll Jam tournament that was held Friday and Saturday on Jekyll Island, and they returned to Region 5-AAAA competition on Tuesday.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Grangers won 5-0.

At number one singles, Caroline Johnson continued to enjoy an exceptional senior season with a 6-2, 6-1 win.

Johnson has been a foundation of the team since her freshman season, and she has been a dominant number one player the past few years.

“It’s nice to be able to write her name down at number one singles,” LaGrange coach Kenny Moore said.

At number two singles, Katie Graham won 6-2, 6-0, and Jordan Reese won 6-0, 6-0 at number three singles.

The story was much the same in doubles, with both LaGrange teams cruising to victory.

At number one doubles, Jia Lee and Euna Oh won 6-0, 6-1, and Katie Bryant and Lauren Kuerzi won 6-2, 6-3 at number two doubles.

In the boys’ match, Connor Mahan won 6-3, 6-4 at number one singles.

Mahan has taken over the number one singles spot this season from Emory DeLoach, who was a senior a year ago, and Moore said he has handled the responsibility well.

“He’s having a great year,” Moore said. “His game just jumped like crazy from last year. He’s become one of the better players in the area. He’s fun to watch.”

Clay Dodson won 6-1, 6-0 at number two singles, and P.J. Alford won 3-6, 6-3 (10-5) at number three singles.

At number one doubles, Garrett Cashwell and Tony Choi secured a 6-2, 6-3 win, and Daniel Yi and Jas Singh won 6-2, 6-2 at number two doubles.

In the Jekyll tournament, the LaGrange girls went 2-1 and fell to Columbus in the championship match, and the LaGrange boys went 1-2.

In the girls’ finals, it was a showdown between teams who may end up playing for the region championship down the road.

It was a tight match, with Columbus winning 3-2.

LaGrange got wins at number one singles from Johnson and at number two singles from Graham, but Columbus won the other three matches.

Facing another region rival, LaGrange edged Carrollton 3-2.

Johnson prevailed at number one singles, Reese won at number three singles, and Lee and Oh won at number one doubles.

In their first match, the Lady Grangers beat Morgan County 5-0.

Johnson, Graham and Reese won in singles, and the teams of Lee and Oh, and Bryant and Kuerzi prevailed in doubles.

On the boys’ side, the Grangers beat Screven County, and they fell to Columbus and Savannah Country Day.

Against Screven County, LaGrange won 4-1.

Mahan, Dodson and Alford all won at singles, and William Doyle and Canon Skinner won at number two doubles.

Against Columbus, LaGrange lost a close one, 3-2.

Mahan won at number one singles, and Singh and Tiger Lakhwani got a win at number two doubles.

Against Savannah Country Day, LaGrange lost 4-1.

LaGrange’s lone win came at number three singles, with Alford winning in two sets.

GOLF: LaGrange High continued its early-season surge with a win over Harris County on Monday.

The Grangers have played in three matches, and they’ve won all of them, and a different player has been the low medalist each time.

P.T. Alford (38), Justin Gordon (38) and Lee Thornton (41) have each been the Grangers’ low scorer this season.

Devin Bray, Lucas Blanton and Jonathan Pelham have also played well early in the season.

LaGrange will host the Granger Invitational on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Highland Country Club.
