On a cool, windy, and even snowy Tuesday evening in Atlanta, the Callaway High soccer teams rolled to Region 5-AAAA victories over Douglass.
The Lady Cavaliers cruised to an 8-0 win to improved to 3-2 in the region, while the Cavaliers won 7-2 to run their region record to 4-1.
The Lady Cavaliers were up 4-0 at the half, and they added four more goals in the second half.
“We went into the wind in the first half and were up 4-0, so we felt pretty good about the second half,” Callaway coach Matt Leonard said.
Ida Kortvelyesi scored Callaway’s first two goals, and Brittany Mitchell scored the next two goals.
Mitchell added a third goal in the second half, and Kalea Johnson scored the next two goals before Audrey Barrett capped the scoring.
The Lady Cavaliers aren’t scheduled to play again until April 15 when they visit Rockmart.
For the Cavaliers, Kyle Jenkins led the way with three goals, and Kevin Craig added two goals.
Cody Tucker and Cameron Spinks had one goal apiece for the Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers will play a pair of games in Savannah next week over spring break.
Callaway will play Windsor Forest on Monday before facing Islands High School the next day.
Callaway will return to its region schedule on April 15 at Rockmart.
