It’ll be a Saturday-afternoon showdown at Troup High.

Troup and LaGrange were both scheduled to face off Friday in the second of their two regular-season meetings, but that game was rained out.

Instead, the two teams will play today at Troup, with the first pitch set for 5:30 p.m.

It’s a key game for both teams as they battle for playoff position in Region 5-AAAA.

LaGrange, Troup and Alexander are tied for third place in the region at 7-5, and only two of those teams can make the playoffs, with Carrollton and Columbus having wrapped up the top two spots.

Troup and LaGrange can both secure playoff spots by winning their final two regular-season games.

Troup won the first meeting with LaGrange 10-3 on April 3.

The game was tied 3-3 heading into the seventh inning, but Troup exploded for seven runs to get the rivalry win.

Bo Halcomb got the complete-game victory, and Tyler Bunn hit a two-run home run to highlight the seventh-inning rally.

While the loser of today’s game wouldn’t be eliminated from the playoff race, the odds would be against them.

“It’s a big game. There’s a lot riding on it,” LaGrange coach Todd Herrington said. “Our guys will go out there and compete, and we’ll see what happens.”
