It’s go time.

The Troup Tigers, along with every other team across the state, will officially kick off preseason practice on Friday.

Friday is the first day, according to the Georgia High School Association, that teams can hold an official practice.

On Aug. 1, a week from Friday, teams can hold their first full-contact practice.

The Tigers will be on the practice field from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Friday, and they’ll maintain that practice schedule until the teachers get started with school.

“We will (go in the morning) as long as we can,” Kendall said. “We will until we get to pre-planning where all teachers have to be in the building. Then we have to go our afternoon schedule.”

The Tigers have had a busy summer that included regular morning practice sessions, and they just finished their two-day Iron Tiger competition, so they’re prepared to hit the ground running on Friday.

“I thought we got a lot done conditioning-wise (in the summer),” Kendall said. “You have seven-on-seven type of events. We had lineman challenge. And we also had a couple of days of camp stuff as a team. And throughout the rest of the summer, we had a number of guys going to different camps, different colleges, and a couple of independent type camps.”

Kendall said the goal during preseason practice will be to make the most of every minute the players are on the field.

“You make sure your practices are organized, and you’re getting the maximum out of that time,” Kendall said.

Troup will face an opponent for the first time on Aug. 15 when it visits Upson-Lee.

Troup then kicks off the regular season on Aug. 29 against the rival LaGrange Grangers at Callaway Stadium.

Kendall said there’s plenty of work to do before the 2014 season unfolds.

“We’ll just take it one practice at a time,” Kendall said. “You can’t ever look ahead past the next day.”
