Letter: Outlaw automatic weapons

Citizens and sportsmen of Georgia, please note that the Supreme Court has ruled that it is in the power of a state to ban automatic weapons.

Those who oppose such a ban on these weapons are, in my mind, an accessory to murder. Our founding fathers could not imagine using a weapon except to commit a crime or to defend against it — with the exception of a hunting rifle.

When did the worship of firearms begin? The best weapon now seems to be the one that kills the most the fastest!

How could you worship a weapon of mass destruction? These massacres are so common that they don’t even make the front page unless it’s a biggie! Well, San Bernardino made it — 14 killed and 17 wounded.

I challenge the gun lovers of LaGrange to take any of these killer weapons and turn them in to the police. Would you like to see this bloodbath continue?

I want to urge our not-too-brave legislators to step up to the plate and pass a law making automatic weapons of any description illegal. Call your legislators before this session and wish them a Merry Christmas and a safe New Year.
