The Heard County Chapter 2587 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy will be presenting Mr. G. Wendell Kistler the Vietnam Conflict Cross of Military Service on Sunday January 27, 2013. The service will be held at the Albert J Perry Post 4629 Veterans of Foreign Wars, 305 Haralson Street in LaGrange, Georgia at 2:30 pm. Wendell Kistler served in the 578th Signal Corps of the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. The Cross of Military Service is one of the most prized awards that the United Daughters of the Confederacy can give. It is the heartfelt attribute of Southern womanhood to those who proved worthy of their Confederate ancestry and who gladly and freely tendered their services and their lives to this great nation in times of stress and strife. Mr. Kistler, who by his faithful devotion and patriotic military service to his country in a time of war, has exemplified courage and loyalty which reflect honor upon himself as well as upon his Confederate ancestor, his great-grandfather William David Ogletree, who served his country in Company K, 14th Regiment, Alabama Infantry, CSA. We invite the friends and family of Wendell Kistler to join us as we honor him for his service to his country.
