School doors are opening again to a new year Monday morning across Troup County, but that doesn’t mean the last weekend of summer break has to be all pencil sharpening and packing lunches for Monday. 

On Saturday, locals can support Troup County Sheriff’s Office deputy Billy Baker, who was diagnosed with stage four terminal cancer two months ago. The Billy Baker Benefit Ride will begin at 11 a.m. starting at the Elks Lodge in LaGrange. The ride costs $25 per vehicle, $5 per passenger and lunch is included with registration of the vehicle. Sheriff James Woodruff will be the auctioneer for the auction and raffle after the ride.

Music lovers can head to Pure Life Studios or Unity Baptist Church of LaGrange Saturday night to hear two different genres.

Folk artist Nicholas Edward Williams will perform at Pure Life Studios from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Also known as “Whetherman,” Williams has independently released eight full-length albums while continuously touring across the U.S., as well as throughout the U.K. and Western Europe. Tickets are $16.50 and can be purchased on the Pure Life website. 

The Old Paths quartet group will take the stage at Unity Baptist at 6 p.m. and perform until 8 p.m. Located at 715 S Greenwood St in LaGrange, this concert is free to attend.
