After the first half of Tuesday’s Region 5-AAAA game against Alexander at Callaway Stadium, the Lady Tigers found themselves trailing 7-0.
In the second half, Troup fought Alexander to a scoreless draw, and head coach Jase Crenshaw was encouraged with what he saw after a tough first half.
The second half was limited to 20 minutes because of the one-sided score.
“The second half was only 20 minutes but we did hold them scoreless,” Crenshaw said. “I really challenged them at the half and they stepped it up a few notches. We were in a bad spot but they responded so well to our halftime conversation and it showed in their second-half play.”
Crenshaw was, however, disappointed in how his team started the game.
“We didn’t show up ready to play,” he said. “We can’t have that facing a top-10 team.”
In the boys’ game, Alexander scored three goals in the first half and three more in the second half to take a 6-0 victory.
Troup’s teams will step out of the region the rest of the week.
Troup hosts Central-Carroll on Thursday, with the girls’ game starting at 5:30 p.m. and the boys’ game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
On Friday, Troup will visit rival Callaway, with the girls’ game kicking things off at 5:30 p.m.
