Betty Marion McGee Allen (Grand Betty), 82 of LaGrange, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at her home.

Betty was born June 27, 1930, in LaGrange, GA, daughter of the late Edna Hazel Willis McGee and Johnnie Merrill McGee. She was Baptist by faith and Rosemont Church always held a special place in her heart. After over 40 years of employment, she retired from Belk’s in 1992, where during her career, she facilitated many Bridal and Fashion Shows. Family was the most important part of her life. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, and she always had presents purchased by summer’s end.

Having sailed 36 cruises, and making sure that her entire family had a chance to go, she set sail for her last cruise in 2007. She loved being at home so much that she did not leave after July of 2011, when her illness left her unable to travel without assistance, she told others that she would stay at home until they had to carry her out. “Men In Black” was never a rerun to her and she would watch it every time it aired. Two other shows that were never a rerun were NCIS and Law and Order.

Her loving family includes her children, Donna Allen (Tim) Stewart, the late Horace Merrill Allen and daughter-in-law, Susan Brooks Allen; grandchildren, Thomas (Sara) Roberts, John Patrick (Crystal) Allen, Christi (Jason) Clark, Christopher (Betsy) Allen, and the late Casey Allen; step-grandchildren, Matthew Stewart, Chris Stewart, and Amy Stewart; great-grandchildren, Andrea Parmer, Lennon Parmer, Cameron Allen, and one on the way; step-great-grandchildren, Tyler Clark, Breanna Jacobs, Devlin Clark, and Lee Anderson; two brothers, James “Bill” (Joyce) McGee and the late Tommy McGee and sister-in-law, Barbara McGee; and a special friend and caregiver, Diane Zachery.

The family will gather at the funeral home to receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2012 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, LaGrange Chapel with Rev. Max McCord officiating. Burial will follow in Hillview East Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of Angels of Hope Hospice for the love and care that was shown during her illness.

Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to Angels of Hope Hospice in memory of Betty McGee Allen.

Arrangements are by Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 1010 Mooty Bridge Road, LaGrange. (706) 884-8636
