Fourth-generation Troup County resident Tripp Foster said he will be the voice for all residents if elected to the Troup County Commission District 3 seat. He is the Republican candidate for the seat.
Foster said his professional experience in all three divisions of public, business experiences and working for the Troup County government give him an advantage as a candidate.
Foster said he attended has several County Commission meetings and worked with Troup County government for 11 years. He was a Troup County firefighter, but resigned to run for the seat.
Foster said he has worked in public safety for 25 years and is on the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, the National Professional Qualification Board of fire-fighters level I and II, and is a NPQ Haz-Mat technician and state-certified in law enforcement.
He owns and operate three businesses in Troup County and served on the homeowners’ association board of directors, and the Governor’s Task Force on Drug Suppression for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Foster feels Troup County needs a real voice for the common citizens in Troup County government. He said the government needs to represent all residents, not a select few.
Foster plans to hold regular town hall meetings if elected to listen to and field his constituents’ complaints, issues and comments. He said that he would vote for what his constituents want and always be accessible.
Foster said special-purpose, local-option sales tax revenue management is a big issue in the county and wants to look at how the SPLOST money is being spent. He wants to look at tax breaks for senior citizens, restoring more hours of operation convenience centers, which he now jokingly calls “inconvenience centers,” West Point Lake water management, “back-door taxes,” airport land acquisitions and air rights management, and look at overhauling of county fire department.
Foster pledged to ask the tough questions in county government and wants to be an integral part of moving Troup County forward. He said he can facilitate communication with the school board about different ways to lower or eradicate school tax for seniors; bring new insight and support to West Point Lake issues; address issues with property tax evaluations coming through the “back door;” cost-effectively help investigate, oversee, overhaul and restructure the Troup County Fire Department; and bring accountability from the Airport Authority to the citizens.

The differences are pretty clear, to anyone paying attention. Sitting like a potted plant on various boards doesn't really say much. Getting out there and helping people, listening to people (for real) is what we need.
