Funeral services for Emogene Lynch Brooke, 83, will be Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel in Jacksonville, AL, with Rev. Greg Brown officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2012. Mrs.

Brooke died Sunday at Hospice LaGrange, LaGrange, GA.

She is survived by two sons, Stafford R. Brooke III and his wife, Terri of LaGrange, GA and Retired Colonel J. Lynton Brooke and his wife Darlene of Peachtree City, GA; a daughter, Kimberly B. Sweeney and her husband, Dr. Gregory D. Sweeney of Fort Mitchell, KY; six grandchildren, Crystal Brooke Handley and her husband Robby, Stafford Brooke IV, CPT Nicholas Brooke and his wife, Erin, Kelli Howard and her husband Ryan, Zachary Sweeney and Kaitlin Sweeney; three great grandchildren, Adah, Jude and Evelyn; a niece, Gail Woodward and a nephew, Jimmy Lynch. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Lynch, Zackary Sweeney, Stafford Brooke IV, Ryan Howard, Robby Handley and Dwayne Lewis.

Emogene, a Lumpkin, GA, native, was a resident of Jacksonville for 33 years. She attended Georgia Southwestern College and graduated from Auburn University where she earned a teacher’s degree. She was the consummate Army wife, serving beside her husband for 30 years. She served in countless leadership and volunteer roles throughout the Army community. She was an active member of the Jacksonville Garden Club and worked tirelessly on the annual Christmas Bazaar for years. She never met a stranger. Her home and heart were always open. Her pride and joy was her family. Known as Mama Brooke, she cherished time with her grandchildren and always made it special. She was a loving lady and much loved by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Annie Lou Lynch; her husband, Retired Colonel Stafford R. Brooke, Jr.; a son, Dr. Wallace S. Brooke and a brother, Royce and sister, Joyce.
