The LaGrange Grangers earned a title shot with a 49-40 victory over the Shaw Raiders Friday night in the semifinals of the Region 5-AAAA tournament.

The Grangers (20-6) will play for the region championship at 7:30 p.m. today against the winner of Friday’s late game between Fayette County and Alexander.

Today’s game will be played a Sandy Creek, and Friday’s game was at Alexander.

Win or lose today, LaGrange will be at home next week for the opening round of the state tournament.

“We’re really proud of them,” said LaGrange head coach Mike Pauley, whose team has won six straight games. “We haven’t played for a region title since 2010. And that’s this team’s 20th win. But the most important thing is we host next week.”

In Friday’s game, the Grangers were up 10-7 after the first quarter, and it was tied 15-15 at the half.

The Grangers took charge in the third period, and they took a 32-25 lead into the fourth quarter.

Joe Sanders paced the Grangers with 14 points, and Kwame Brown, Don Leak and Justyn Olson added 10 points apiece.
