Ongoing

The Journey - Connections art exhibit runs at the Cochran Gallery on the Square until Oct. 26. The exhibit contains “quilts” of canvas created in collaboration with or inspired by someone’s cancer journey. Each piece is accompanied by an essay explaining its meaning.

“Folk Crafts of West Georgia” at Legacy Museum on Main, in conjunction with the opening of “American Folk Hero: Outsider Art of Georgia and Alabama” at LaGrange Art Museum. The exhibit will feature the more ornamental variety of crafts such as quilts, baskets, wood carvings and bowls, and totem poles from Troup and surrounding counties. Items on display date from the early 1900s to recent days. Legacy Museum on Main is located at 136 Main St. in LaGrange. The museum is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free of charge. For more information, call 706-884-1828.

Local growers sell produce, cheeses, baked goods, plants and other locally made items at Market on Main from 8 to 10 a.m. in the parking lot behind Carmike Theater. Troup County extension agents Celeste Garrett and Randy Drinkard will be at the market to answer questions about food preservation, canning, gardening and summer horticulture.

Whispering Pines apartments, 1515 Hogansville Road, hosts its annual fall festival from 3 to 5 p.m. on the tennis courts. There will be a large slide, food venders, games and face painting. Open to the public.

The annual NAACP Freedom Fund banquet is 6 p.m. with guest speaker Jeff Cato, West Point police chief. Tickets and additional information available at 706-402-1107.

Monday, Tuesday

New Horizon Community Theatre hosts open auditions for the comedy play “Hallelujah Girls” at 7 p.m. at the theater at 411 W. 8th St. Actors 25 years and older are invited to audition. No preparation is needed and actors only need to attend one audition session. Show dates for “Hallelujah Girls” are Dec. 6-8.

Monday

A beginner scrapbook class is offered at the Active Life Center on Ragland Street at 11 a.m. There is no cost for the class. A registration form and supply list can be picked up at the center.

United Way of West Georgia hosts Merry Market shopping extravaganza at Callaway Conference Center at West Georgia Tech. Numerous speciality vendors will sell items for early holiday shopping. Thursday is a preview party from 5-8 p.m. with tickets for $25 including food, beverage, entertainment, silent auction and walk-around fashion show. Shopping days are Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with general admission tickets $5, which is a donation to Early Learning Programs in Troup County. Oct. 20

Certified Literate Community Program hosts Leggin’ it for Literacy 5K and fun run on Lafayette Square. Registration begins at 7 p.m., the 5K begins at 10 p.m., 1-mile Fun Run begins at 10:05 p.m. and Tot Trot is 8 p.m. To register, go to active.com. Pre-registration is $25 by Oct. 13 and $30 through race day, and the Tot Trot is $5 or three children’s books.

LaGrange Art Museum holds Family Super Saturday with free tours at the museum and art activities at the Center for Creative Learning from 1 to 4 p.m.
