They’re off and running.

The LaGrange High Lady Grangers kicked off a new soccer season on Friday in the opening round of a tournament the school hosts each year.

LaGrange took on North Cobb at Callaway Stadium, and it fell short 4-1.

The LaGrange High Invitational continues with two games today, and six games on Saturday.

In Thursday’s game, the Lady Grangers’ lone goal came courtesy of senior Cassidy Kemp, who led the team in scoring as a freshman and a sophomore but didn’t play as a junior while recovering from knee surgery.

“It’s good to have her back out there,” LaGrange head coach Rusty Cook said.

The game also marked the debut for freshman goal keeper Sara Kate Doerr.

“She’s a freshman, so we’re getting her out there, getting her some good playing time and experience,” Cook said. “She’s doing a great job.”

While the team has a freshman at one of the most critical positions, the Lady Grangers have a lot of experience elsewhere with a bunch of seniors.

“We’ve got seven seniors that are starting,” Cook said. “It’s good to have all that leadership on the team.”

LaGrange will play again at 5:30 p.m. today against Hebron at Callaway Stadium.

The Lady Grangers cap their tournament stay on Saturday at 5 p.m. against Harris County.

LaGrange opens its Region 5-AAAA schedule on Wednesday at Columbus.

LaGrange High’s boys’ team, meanwhile, will play its tournament opener at 7:30 p.m. today against Hebron.

The Grangers then play Harris County at 3 p.m. on Saturday and South Paulding at 7 p.m. later in the day.
