Mr. Davenport, a native of Troup County was the son of the late Johnny and Anna Ray-Davenport. In the mid-1960’s he joined Bethany Baptist Church in Pine Mountain where he served as President of the Senior Choir, President of the UBA Lodge #92 and later as a Deacon under the leadership of Rev. Marsh Gates. As a young man, Robert was the owner and operator of the Friendly Dry Cleaners of Pne Mountain. He was a bus driver for the Harris County School System for over 24 years and he was a Funeral Service Attendant with the Pine Mountain Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Amigene Davenport; four daughters, Marva (Albert) Copeland of Pine Mountain, Ga. Patricia Jenkins of Pine Mountain, Ga., Gwendolyn (Doug) Clinton of LaGrange, and Rita (Rev. James) Maddox of Pine Mountain, Ga.; two step-children, Minister Deborah Martin and Althea (Sam) Ray both of Pine Mountain, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. Lucy Kate Pope (Minister Robert Pope) of Columbus, Ga.; two brothers, Lonnie Ogletree of Pine Mountain, Ga. and David Ogletree of Columbus, Ga.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several other relatives.
Funeral services for Robert Davenport will be held on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Bethany Baptist Church, Hwy#18 Pine Mountain, Ga. Rev. William Robinson will officiate with burial at the church cemetery.
