It’s not officially winter, but there is a possibility of some snow making an early appearance this week.
Forecasts show a 20 percent chance of snow and rain showers in the area Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. Temperatures were expected to drop to 34 degrees, so any snow likely would not stick.
Any snow was expected to give way to just rain during the day Wednesday as temperatures rise up to 57 degrees.
Before any possibility of snow, though, the area today was under watch for a band of severe thunderstorms stretching across portions of the southeastern United States, particularly from east central Mississippi to northwest Georgia. According to the National Weather Service this morning, there is a chance for severe storms in the area, but the front was expected to weaken as it reached central Georgia. It still was estimated to bring 0.10 to 0.25 inches of rain.
According to local forecasts, the rest of the week should be clear. Temperatures were expected to vary from the low 40s to the mid 60s.
