This year’s Merry Market opening was a colorful array of food, drink, entertainment and a dazzling display of beautiful merchandise from 30 different vendors, from seven different states.

Thursday night’s preview party and silent auction was well attended and gave shoppers an intriguing introduction to what will be going on at the Merry Market today and tomorrow at West Georgia Technical College’s Callaway Conference Center.

This is the second year that the United Way is sponsoring Merry Market which raises money to fund Troup County’s Early Learning Programs. Last year’s market was extremely successful, but this year it seems that Merry Market Chairman Stephanie Preston has managed to improve on the event by the addition of some different vendors.

Ann Adamson and her daughter Alis Albritton attended the event last year and were very impressed with what they saw at last night’s opening.

“I wouldn’t miss it, we start our Christmas shopping here,” Adamson said, as she and her daughter took an opportunity to try some of the food and drink. “This is a great opportunity, and this year there are a number of fresh new vendors,” she said.

Along with local merchants, vendors have come from New York, Alabama, Florida, Washington, Louisiana and North Carolina. Preston said, “We are very grateful to all of the merchants who have come here to set up such beautiful displays for our shoppers. We are also grateful to everyone for supporting our Early Learning Programs by shopping here at Merry Market.”

The shopping extravaganza continues today from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and then again tomorrow, Saturday, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.. Entertainment will be provided this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. by “Young Singers” and at 5-6:30 p.m. by “Re-Generation”. Admission to for either today or tomorrow is $5 at the door.
