Thelma Ruth Culpepper passed away Saturday, October 6, 2012.
Mrs. Culpepper was born March 28, 1915, in Chipley, Georgia, to the late Larkin and Susie Hightower. She was the fourth of 12 children. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at the age of 15 and joined the Bethany Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend John Gore. Mrs. Culpepper was a member of the Senior Mission and she was the oldest member of the Mother’s Ministry. She served as a Deaconess of the Deacon Board and she was the secretary of Sunday School and the B.Y.P.U. She worked faithfully with the Usher Ministry and the Senior Choir.
Thelma Ruth Hightower and Vamus Culpepper were married on August 16, 1938. To this union ten children were born. Mrs. Culpepper proceeded in death by her daughter’s, Annie Ruth Culpepper; Mary George Wortham; Roberta Tucker; and sons, Jammie Lee Culpepper and Vamus Culpepper, Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Vamus Culpepper of Pine Mountain, Georgia; five daughters, Barbara Jean Wortham and Lucille Curry of Pine Mountain, Georgia; Rosa (Wesley) Hall and Patricia (Grady Dennis) Zachery, Jr. of Decatur, Georgia; Annette Culpepper of Lithonia, Georgia; one son-in-law, Charlie Tucker of Pine Mountain, Georgia; 28 grandchildren ; 57 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Reverend James E. Hightower of Atlanta, Georgia and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. William Robinson and Rev. James E. Hightower officiating. Burial will follow at the Church Cemetery.
