Troup wins at Columbus

The Troup Tigers got their region record back to .500 with a 57-51 road victory over Columbus on Friday.

The Tigers (5-5 in Region 5-AAAA) went up 33-21 at the half after outscoring the Blue Devils 23-13 in the second period, but Columbus fought back and got to within one heading into the fourth quarter.

Columbus actually briefly held the lead in the third period, but Troup settled down and controlled the action in the fourth period to win by six.

Demetrius Trammell led Troup with 22 points, and Lakeithin Buckner added 14 points.

Troup’s girls’ team fell short against Columbus.

Troup’s teams will host Fayette County today, with the girls’ game tipping off at 6 p.m., and the boys’ game to follow.

LAFAYETTE CHRISTIAN: The Lady Cougars wrapped up the second seed in GISA Region 4-A with a 35-27 victory over Heirway Christian Friday night.

Morgan Douglas led Lafayette Christian with 14 points, five steals and two assists, and Courtney Lowery added 13 ponits, four steals, four assists and six rebounds.

The Lady Cougars will be the number two seed for next week’s region tournament, and they will take on third-seeded Dawson Street Christian.

In Friday’s boys’ game, the Cougars rolled to a 62-40 victory.

Colton Whitley paced the Cougars with 13 points, Levi Evans added 12 points, and David Curry contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Cougars will be the fourth seed for next week’s region tournament, and they’ll play fifth-seeded Heirway in the play-in game.
