Mr. Smith was born July 17, 1936, in Marshall County, Alabama, son of the late Ernest and Willie Lee Martin Smith. A veteran of service in the U. S. Army, he lived in LaGrange for many years, was a member of the Baptist faith and was a retired flooring installer.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Perkins Smith of LaGrange; daughters, Kim Harrell of Murray, KY and Susan Yates of Calhoun; step-son, Mike Ross of LaGrange; sisters, Linda Mikel and Vicki Wagnon, both of Albertville, AL, and Evelyn Lacey of Boaz, AL; brothers, Stanley Smith of Albertville and Bobby Smith of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, William A. (Tony) Smith.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home, with interment in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 tonight.
