The LaGrange Academy teams had their hands full with Arlington Christian Saturday afternoon.

In the first game, an Arlington girls’ team that has won multiple state championships in recent years rolled to a 68-34 victory.

The boys’ game was close much of the way, but Arlington was able to pull away late for a 74-54 victory.

In the late game, the Warriors got 20 points from Chase Wardlaw and 16 points from Mayokun Oshinowo, but it wasn’t enough.

“It was a good test, and we’ll be prepared for them next time,” said Britt Gaylor, the head coach of the girls’ and boys’ teams.

The Warriors were hanging in there until Arlington went on an 8-0 run at the start of the fourth period to take control.

LaGrange Academy remained within shouting distance for awhile until Arlington put it away.

“We were clawing and scratching and got it back to 10 and eight a couple of times,” Gaylor said. “They finally hit a couple of threes that pretty much sealed it with three minutes left.”

The girls’ game wasn’t competitive, although Gaylor felt the experience was a good one for his young team.

“With our girls being young, that’s the level we eventually want to be at,” Gaylor said. “We’re working there. Saturday was a good experience for them. We’re getting better.”
