Board of Education members today approved implementing new elementary school zones to begin in the next school year while allowing some students to be “grandfathered” into older siblings’ schools.
Superintendent Cole Pugh said that staff recommended a new option for students who will begin school while the new zoning is implemented, but whose older siblings already are attending school outside the newly implemented zones. Those students will be “grandfathered” in to attend the same school as their sibling if space is available, and transportation may be provided.
Pugh said the implementation period for the new zoning is expected to be six years and adjustments may be made to the zoning boundaries during that period. The school board approved the new zones with the staff-recommended option for “grandfathering” younger siblings.
