A Monroe Street man was shot and a woman arrested on charges of aggravated battery of a child in separate incidents Saturday night.
In the shooting incident, police said Joel S. Blackmon, 28, got into a vehicle with three people, who drove him about 1,000 feet from his home in the 800 block of Monroe Street when the driver of the vehicle shot him in the chest. Blackmon walked back to his home to seek help. Officers found him about 11:45 p.m. in a bedroom.
Blackmon was airlifted to Columbus Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition this morning.
The shooting suspect was described as a black male with a light complexion, about 25 to 30 years old, braided hair and a medium build.
In the second incident, LaGrange police officers responded about 6 p.m. to a report of an injured child at West Georgia Medical Center. After investigating, detectives believe that Christina Mendoza had assaulted the 6-month-old victim, causing serious injuries.
Mendoza was charged with aggravated battery and first-degree cruelty to children, both under the family violence act.
