A LaGrange man, already in custody on suspicion of auto theft, will face additional charges, after police recovered stolen property Monday linking him to seven recent crimes.

At approximately 10 a.m., investigators with the LaGrange Police Department began removing bicycles, car stereos and power tools from the home of 33-year-old Leonard Weeks, located in the 400 block of Boulevard.

Within two hours, Weeks was charged with burglary, auto theft and five incidents of entering auto.

Weeks was arrested for vehicle theft June 12, after Troup County Sheriff’s investigators spotted him walking with a wheelbarrow of what was later found to be stolen property. Weeks was in possession of a car key at the time of his arrest, which police have since linked to a stolen truck found in a wooded area of Liberty Hill Road the same day.

Police recovered and returned two saws and an invention pamphlet less than a block away from Weeks’ home on Boulevard. The property was stolen during an entering auto incident last week and was estimated to be worth more than $2,000. The pamphlet contained the patent to the part of a wheelchair and detailed steps of its invention, the owner said.

P0lice identified the owner of an unknown brand CD player by finding other items stolen during the same entering auto incident on Boulevard last week.

“He had her mail at his house,” Sgt. Marshall McCoy said. “He took her whole purse and we got her name from mail that was inside it.”

Weeks was connected to an incident that occurred in the 800 block of Murphy Avenue, when investigators found the missing emblem of a Nissan Z300 in his home.

Weeks has been arrested for stealing emblems in the past, Detective Charles Brown said. Brown, who was assigned to the case, was one of three investigators recovering property from his home Monday.

“For some reason, he has a thing for emblems,” Brown said. “He came to mind when I saw them.”

Police said Weeks could face additional charges as the investigation continues.
