Children, adults and car-lovers alike joined together at West Point lake for the Third Annual Troup County Sheriff’s Office Car Show Saturday. The event benefited Pineland, the Georgia Sheriff’s Association Youth Home located in LaGrange.
The car show welcomed a total of 64 car, truck and motorcycles participants.
The trophy for best car was awarded to Eddie McDaniel for his 1939 Chevrolet Couple, best truck was awarded to Chuck Mann for his 1941 Chevrolet, and best motorcycle went to J.P. Patrick for his 2008 Harley Davidson.
Sheriff’s Choice was awarded to Carlton Jackson for his red 1963 Ford Falcon.
Door prizes, raffles and a money tree allowed people of all ages a chance to win prizes during the event, which lasted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Sheriff Donny Turner said that Pineland, a home for neglected children, has had it’s share of success stories.
“We had one boy battle cancer twice and go on to become a doctor,” he said. “We are their family.”
Ed Davis attended the event with his family and yellow 1968 Mustang. He said that he enjoyed contributing to a good cause.
“I applaud that the money went there,” he said. “It’s nice that the community has this chance to support Pineland.”
Davis parked his car beside a blue 1967 blue Chevrolet Camaro belonging to stepson Dwayne Meacham.
“It’s the car I always wanted as a kid,” Meacham said.
Meacham said the event was a great way to meet other people who have restored their dream cars.
“I met a lot of people and got to relax too,” he said.
