Water leak prompts city to issue boil notices to 7 homes
by Nicole Emmett
Staff Writer

A specific group of Troup County residents are being asked to boil their water until further notice after two leaks were found in water lines.

The boil notice, affecting seven homes in the area of Corinth Street and Power Plant Road in Hogansville, is expected to be lifted this weekend. It was issued after a leak was found in a line beneath the Georgia Power substation on Power Plant Road on July 13, City Manager James Woods said.

“The line predates most of the current safety infrastructure,” Woods said. “We could do more damage digging up the line than re-routing it.”

Evelyn Hernandez said she has had little to no water pressure for several weeks.

“I’ve had two showers in three weeks,” she said.

Boil notices are usually announced if water pressure falls below 20 pounds per square inch (PSI), Woods said.

Hernandez said she and neighbors have had between 0 to 20 PSI, with a few spikes of 30 PSI recorded in between. Most spikes in pressure occur at night and are missed opportunities to take showers or cook food.

“You don’t know it to get up and do anything,” she said.

Woods said the city should finish re-routing and flushing out the line by Friday.

“We hope to put it back in service sometime this weekend,” Woods said.

STONE MOUNTAIN - It was one heck of a ride. The Troup Tigers didn’t win a state championship, which was the number one goal for every player and coach on the team. While that goal wasn’t achieved, there’s no question that when the pain of Tuesday’s semifinal loss to Redan wears off, everyone as...
