Deputies raid marijuana grow, arrest suspect
by Nicole Emmett
Staff Writer

Troup County Sheriff’s Office Drug Agents arrested a West Point man for allegedly manufacturing marijuana in his backyard, according to a sheriff’s report.

The agents received a tip that someone was growing marijuana on their property in the 300 block of Reed Road in West Point.

Resident William Craig Slade, 28, gave agents consent to search the property upon arrival. During their search, agents found an oblong and rectangular-shaped flower pot containing three marijuana plants, in plain view, located in the backyard.

“He had it growing where every neighbor around him could see,” Lt. Wesley Gaddy said. “The plants were between a storage shed and a car.”

Each of the plants stood approximately 3 feet tall, according to the report.

Agents arrested Slade, who then allegedly admitted to having smoking devices as well. Agents reported that Slade showed them to a blue glass pipe located on the back bumper of his pickup truck.

A set of scales, marijuana grinders, rollings papers, marijuana seeds and various other smoking devices were found inside the home, Gaddy said. Most of the paraphernalia was concealed in a Crown Royal bag, according to the report.

All items were seized and admitted into evidence. Slade was transported to the Troup County Jail and charged with manufacturing marijuana.
