Two people were killed Saturday afternoon after a van was struck by a truck at Hamilton and Old Chipley roads.
State troopers said a van carrying five people was traveling on Old Chipley Road and, according to witnesses, ran the stop sign at Hamilton Road. The van was struck broadside by a truck hauling a horse trailer that was southbound on Hamilton Road.
All of the van’s occupants were injured. Two were pronounced dead at the West Georgia Medical Center ER after the accident, said Troup County Coroner Jeff Cook. They were identified as Piedad Campos, 52, and her grandson, Andy Zoel Bustillo, 1, both of Newnan.
The occupants of the truck received minor injuries, troopers said. Names of the other occupants involved in the wreck were unavailable at the time of this report. Georgia State Patrol was investigating.
