On Thursday evening, the Troup County School System announced that beginning on Friday, all school athletic activities have been suspended, and that includes games and practices.

How long the suspension will last wasn’t announced.

Earlier on Thursday, prompted by the threat of the coronavirus, the Georgia High School Association recommended that all school systems in the state suspend athletic activities.

Soon after, the TCSS sent out a message to each of the schools, and here is the text of the message:

“On the recommendation of the Governor and the GHSA, TCSS has suspended all school athletics beginning tomorrow (Friday). We will receive further information about the duration of the suspension soon. The Board is meeting tomorrow to discuss and finalize plans.”

There will be a meeting of the Troup County School Board on Friday when more information will be provided.

Even before the decision to suspend all sports activities was made, the Granger Invitational tennis tournament was canceled.

The tournament, which is hosted by LaGrange High, was supposed to be held Friday and Saturday, but a number of teams had decided not to attend.

All of the spring sports, including baseball, soccer, tennis, golf and track and field, are impacted by the decision.

Also, LaGrange College’s baseball team won’t play its three-game home series against Piedmont this weekend.

The teams were supposed to play single games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

No makeup date has been announced.
